Manufacture of formic esters and hydrocyanic acid by catalytic dehydration. Intermediate in organic synthesis. Softener for paper, animal glues, water soluble glues. Intermediate in the chemical industry; used for producing heterocyclic compounds, pharmaceuticals, crop protection agents, fungicides, and pesticides; used as a solvent in the manufacture and processing of plastics; to produce formic acid; used to remove coating from copper conductors; used in the spinning of acrylonitrile copolymers; employed in the antistatic finishing of plastics or formation of conductive coatings on plastic particles.
